Amelia M (Duran) Ocampo

Amelia M. Ocampo passed away in Fort Mohave, AZ on Sunday, July 14, 2019. She was born in Howard, Colorado on April 5, 1932 to Andres and Luz Duran.

Amelia is survived by her children, Alfred (Laurie) Ocampo, Edna (Paul) Larson, and James (Melodie) Ocampo.

She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Her surviving siblings are, brother, Orlando (Jacqui) Duran, sisters, Sophie Brambila, Andrea Garcia, Virginia Calzada, Bernice Perez, and Agnes Valenzuela.

She has numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Amelia married Alfredo Ocampo in May,1952, and shared 52 years of marriage. They began their life together, in Los Angeles, CA. In 1986, they moved to Prescott Valley to enjoy their retirement. They enjoyed going to the Casino to play BINGO and sometimes a slot machine or two. After Alfredo and Amelia suffered illnesses, they moved to Fort Mohave, being closer to Jim and Melodie. Amelia was a devout Catholic, loving mother and enjoyed visiting family. She remembered names, even classmates from elementary school. She enjoyed sewing, making hand-made quilts, and crocheting, especially tablecloths and doilies. She was a very good cook and baker. Amelia was a great “overseer,” when making tamales, at which time she enjoyed a “little” glass of beer. Her pies were delicious, especially Lemon Meringue, Pumpkin, and empanadas, both apple and pumpkin. She enjoyed an occasional Margarita or Wine Spritzer. She enjoyed gathering with her sisters, sometimes at the casino. On her last visit, to the Casino with her family, she was so happy to “win” on her three favorite penny machines.

Amelia is predeceased by her husband, Alfredo R. Ocampo, parents, Andres Duran and Luz Tena, brothers, Tony Duran, Albino Duran, Ernie Duran, Donnie Duran, sisters, Isabel Duran, Mae Smith, Katherine Alvarado and Lugardita Bueno, granddaughter, Veronica Marie Larson and great-granddaughter, Lila Belle Larson.
