Billy Ray “Bill” McGirk, Jr. (Butch), age 67, peacefully left this life to be with Jesus on August 21, 2021.  After courageously battling a long illness Bill was at home with his family when he closed his eyes on earth and opened them in heaven.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents Billy Ray & Rita McGirk, Sr., and sister Donna Lynn.Bill is survived by his wife of 31 years Julie, his son Nate and wife Elana, 3 grandchildren Brendon, Gavin & Chloe of Rochester, NY; two daughters Shannon of San Francisco, CA & Sarah of Flagstaff, AZ, and sister Cindy Nash and brother-in-law Robert Nash of Bulverde, TX.   Bill was born in Fairfield, TX and grew up in San Antonio, TX.  After graduating from high school in 1972 he joined the Air Force and later transferred to the Marine Corps – 4th Recon. Division.  He served two tours in Viet Nam. After discharge from the military, Bill graduated from the Houston Police Academy.   He proudly served on the Houston Police Department’s SWAT Team.  After leaving law enforcement Bill owned an investigation company, worked as a Special Investigator for several insurance companies, and lastly for the past decade owned and operated his company analyzing cell phone records.

Bill loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and shooting were his passions.  He was a skilled marksman and enjoyed shooting trap and skeet at the Prescott Trap and Skeet Club. He was a fan of the University of Texas football and the Dallas Cowboys.  Bill started every season positive it was their time to win it all.

Bill was a man of faith and served faithfully on the tech team at his home church in Houston, TX and at several churches in the Tri-City area after moving to Prescott, AZ in 2004.  He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.  He was known for his generosity and hospitality.  He enjoyed preparing amazing bar-b-que for friends on many occasions.  Bill never met a stranger.  He loved to tell stories and his sense of humor could make everyone in the room laugh. He will be dearly missed by many.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
