CAROL E. BLAINE, 87, died on Tuesday, January 18, at Prescott Samaritan Village.   She was born on December 12, 1917 to Dr. John R. and Marcia B. Westaby in Clark, South Dakota.  After earning her bachelor?s degree in English, in 1939, she taught elementary school at Belle Fourche, South Dakota.  During WWII she joined the American Red Cross, serving in Europe.  It was while sailing to England on the Queen Mary, then a troop ship, that she met her future husband, James W. Blaine, of London, Ohio.   After the war, Carol earned her M.A. in educational psychology from Greely College, Colorado, and married James on Sept. 2, 1947 in Madison, South Dakota.  While Jim studied Industrial Engineering at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, Carol taught high school English.  After living briefly in Dodge City, Kansas, Jim was hired by United Airlines.  This led the couple, now with two daughters, to relocate several times, ending up in Arlington Heights, Illinois.  When Jim retired from United, he and Carol moved to Prescott in 1982.   Carol had many talents.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting, stained glass, traveling, camping (she was a Girl Scout leader), crafts, reading, and attending circles at both the United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights and the Prescott United Methodist Church.  While in Prescott she utilized her teaching skills as a literacy volunteer at local schools.   She was predeceased by her husband who died in 2001; a sister, Janice; and a brother, Stephen.  She is survived by her daughter, Becky Blaine, of St. Charles, Illinois; daughter Marcia Beach (and her husband Wayne) of Phippsburg, Maine; a granddaughter, Carol Adelaide Beach, of Phippsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott.  Donations (in lieu of flowers) may be made to The Open Door c/o Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott AZ 86301 or to the American Humane Society.
