Evelyn Louise Dewitt

Evie was preceded in death by her parents, Waunetta Cover, B. Vincent Cole and her son, Scott Robert Smith.  She is survived by her beloved husband Larry, daughter Suzan Ehrhorn (Brad). Granddaughters Sabrina and Stephanie Ehrhron.  Step children Vernon Dewitt, and Connie, grandson Austin Blakeslee. Sisters Loretta Glenn, Nita Summers (Lewis Blanton) and brother, David Cole.  Aunts Helen Ashcraft and Dotti Cole (Leslie Snyder).   Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Evie was a devoted wife and mother.   She took classes on being a good parent and then kindly shared the information with me.  She served as a 4H leader for years.  Teaching children how to care for and train animals.  She would take my children on vacations they would never have had the opportunity to enjoy without Evie's heart to include them.  Evie mentored other children.  She would pick up my granddaughter, Heather, at school every Wednesday, take her home to teach her handicrafts, manners, play games and of course homework then return her to school the next day.  They even went to High Tea at the Ritz Carlton.  Heather continues to enjoy the handicrafts and skills she learned from her Aunt Evie.    Evie did the same for another little girl, Maddie.   Additionally, for over thirty years she has supported many girls attending a school in Pakistan.

Dogs were always a part of Evie's life.  Almost all the dogs were rescued animals.  She trained them well and loved them more.

One of Evie's great enjoyments was painting.  She was a gifted artist and was so excited when strangers bought her paintings.    She was very talented.

She loved to entertain and enjoyed the friendships of many friends and neighbors.

For several years Evie served as a "Pink Lady" volunteer at John C. Lincoln Hospital.  Most of the time in the emergency room and also participated in fundraising.  She thoroughly enjoyed serving in this capacity.  Then she moved on to Toastmasters, Square Dancing, The Red Hats, Craft Clubs, camping and RVing.  Her life was extremely full.

My dear little sister sold Indian jewelry for a time and carried a pistol before packing was commonplace.  Fortunately, the need to use it never occurred.

Over a period of several years Evie and Larry lovingly watched over our parents while they lived in the AZ Pioneer Home.   We will always be deeply indebted for the love and care they provided to them.

Evie and Larry were married just over 32 years.  They set an example of what marriage should be.  They had many of the same interests and enjoyed square and round dancing, traveling, having friends and family over for a challenging game of Back 3.   Many of us have been blessed with our Back 3 boards.

Holidays were special times in their lives.  Lots of decorating, time with family, parties and dinners.   All were a part of their lifestyle.  They really looked forward to these occasions.

We are happy for the years we had Evie with us and know she is no longer suffering from a cruel and painful cancer.  We can be assured she is now at peace.  We all will miss her wisdom, smile, servant's heart and her love.

A celebration of Evie's life will be held on October 22, 2016 from 2-4 pm, at Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort, Recreation Hall, 11201 North El Mirage Road, El Mirage, AZ 85335.  In lieu of flowers please send donations in Evie's name to: Eve's Place, 8877 North 107 Ave, Suite 302-497, Peoria, AZ 85345.
