Joseph Henry Rogers

Joseph Henry Rogers, age 82, of Prescott passed away Oct. 18. 2005. Joseph was born on September 17, 1923, the son of Alvina and William Rogers in Brooklyn, NY. At the young age of 17, he volunteered for the Navy in WWII. He was stationed in Atu, Alaska, where he became crew chief of a PV 1 Ventura bomber. He accomplished the rank of Chief Petty Officer by taking an accelerated promotion path six months after enlisting. After the service he moved his family to Phoenix, AZ and joined the Civil Air Patrol because of his love for flying. He was an aerospace engineer for Goodyear in Phoenix. After a 25 year career he retired and moved to Prescott. His retirement allowed him to devote much of his time to his passion for flying. He also joined the Prescott Soaring Club. His engineering mind didn?t allow him to completely retire, after building his solar dream home in Prescott Valley; he started a business selling solar energy products. Joe is survived by his wife of 31 years, Phyllis; his three sons and their spouses, Joseph (Jeannette) of Phoenix, Kerrie of San Diego and Lynn of Denver. Also by his blended children Randy of Ohio, Robin of Fountain Hills, AZ, Candis of Prescott Valley, AZ and Coleen of Glendale, AZ. Thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will take place 10 a.m. Saturday October 29 in the Unity Church of Prescott, 145 South Arizona Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to Unity Church of Prescott for their elevator fund.
