Luella V Newell

Luella V. Newell went home to our Holy Father on April 15, 2017 from complications of COPD. She was born in Grayslake, Illinois on July 9, 1929 to Fred and Helena Obenauf.

She was married to Ralph J Untz on January 22, 1949. They spent 59 years loving each other, and raising three daughters; Pam, Sue and Deb. Ralph passed away on October 6, 2008. Luella was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Helena Obenauf, husband, Ralph Untz, brother and sisters; Ralph Obenauf, Loraine Untz, Robert Obenauf, Dorothy Regner, Helen Supergan, and Paul Obenauf.

Luella spent her life serving her family, church, and community. She was very active in her church, first at St. Mary's of Freemont Center, IL, then later at St. Germaine's Catholic Church in Prescott Valley, AZ. She was an avid volunteer at the VA Hospital, organizing bingo games for the American veterans, making popcorn for visitors and patients, and visiting the sick. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, tallying up 4,000 hours of volunteer work. Luella loved to paint with acrylics and wax, and created numerous varieties of craft. She shared her art work with her family and friends and gave much of what she made to the church bazaar each year. She also loved to travel.

Luella was re-married to William E Newell on February 9, 2011 and they were blessed with six years of complete happiness together. She is survived by her loving husband, William Newell, her daughters; Pamela and husband Ron Behm, Susan and husband William Laufenberg, and Deborah and husband Timothy O'Harrow, step-daughter, Lisa and husband Charlie Fredrickson, and stepson Kelly Newell, sister, Gertrude Deinlein and brother, James Obenauf.

Her grandchildren, Shannon, Brian, Jason, Mariah, Erin, Marcy, and William were the light of her life. She was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren; Lily, Brandon, Makyla, Samuel, Rowan, Kolbie, Liam, Tristan, and John.
