Marylou Johnsen

Marylou Johnsen was born in Detroit, Mich. on April 28, 1927, the daughter of Tessie and Emil Barth.  The family moved to Anacortes, Wash. shortly thereafter, Marylou graduated from Anacortes high school as class Salutatorian.  She continued her schooling at Mt. Vernon Jr. College in Washington State and met her soon to be husband, William (Bill) R. Johnsen in her German class.  They were married May 23, 1947.   She and Bill moved to California so he could finish college at College of the Pacific.  During his college years she worked as a secretary at Stockton Jr. College.  Bill taught for a while in the Stockton area and then they moved to Monterey, Calif. where Bill taught for a time, became a principal, and Curriculum Coordinator.   They left Monterey in 1969 as Bill accepted a Superintendents position in the Central Valley of California.  They spent two years there and then moved to  Washington where Bill served five years as a Superintendent.  Then it was back to Monterey as Bill served eight years as associate Superintendent for the Monterey County Office of Education.   Marylou was active in all the communities they lived in with  Children Home Society, Hospital Guilds and ect.  She was a great companion, a great wife and excellent mother and will be missed by her family and many friends.   She is survived by her husband, son Brett, granddaughter Sara Rose and daughter-in-law Denise.
