Mavis was born December 24, 1936, in Sleepy Eye, MN, the only child to John and Mildred (Hammond) Laux.  She attended St. Mary?s for elementary and secondary school in Sleepy Eye, and at age 17, she enrolled at Mankato State College in MN earning a bachelor?s degree in English and Speech.  In 1954, Mavis began teaching English in Montgomery, MN. On October 7, 1961, she married Robert J. Koktavy of Le Sueur, MN, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, MN. They lived in Buhl, ID for four years and Belvidere, IL for three years before returning to Le Sueur, MN. After having three children, Mavis became a substitute teacher, and then school librarian, and in 2000, retired after 24 years at the Le Sueur High School library and media center.  In 2002, Mavis and her husband, Bob, moved to Prescott Valley, AZ. Mavis was a longtime member of St. Anne?s Catholic Church in Le Sueur and then St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley. She especially enjoyed genealogy, reading, quilting, kitties, and crossword puzzles.  Mavis is survived by her husband, Robert of Prescott Valley; her daughter, Kathryn Koktavy of Phoenix, AZ; her son, John Koktavy of Phoenix, AZ; her son, Peter Koktavy, wife, Amanda, and her granddaughter, Clara Mavis, all of Chicago, IL; a sister-in-law, Pat Wiese, and husband, Ron, of Prior Lake, MN; a sister-in-law, Helen Koktavy of Le Sueur, MN; nephews and their families; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
