The family of Ronald C. Swehla mourns his passing on Jan. 6, 2012 in Prescott, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children, daughter, Deb Fitzgerald of Peoria, AZ, daughter Diane and husband Pete Cambridge of Tucson. AZ, son, Craig and wife Julie Swehla of Cobb, CA, son, Scott and wife Terry of Santa Rosa, CA, son Mike Swehla of Prescott Valley, AZ, 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Rosella Svejkovsky of St. Cloud, MN.
Ron was born on June 21, 1930 in Adams, MN, the son of Louis and Elizabeth Swehla. At an early age the family moved to Austin, MN. Ron attended Columbus and Pacelli Catholic Schools in Austin. He had 3 older sisters. He worked alongside his dad in their family business. It was in Austin that he met his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Schmidt. They were married at St Augustine Catholic Church in Austin on March 26, 1951 and had 5 children.
Over the years his career took him and his family from Minnesota, to Iowa, then North Dakota, and back to Minnesota. In 1978 they moved to Prescott, AZ where he owned and ran The Mens Shoppe and Moniques clothing stores on Gurley St. in downtown Prescott.
Rons first love was always his family. He also enjoyed playing golf, cards, fishing, family camping trips, bocce ball, and swimming the Prescott YMCA.
Ron had a long and fulfilling life. He will be fondly remembered for his jovial sense of humor that he kept right up until the end. He will be deeply missed by his loving family as well as all who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012, at St. Catherine LaBour Catholic Church in Chino Valley, AZ. The family suggests memorial donations, in Rons name, be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Compassionate Care Fund, 1065 Ruth St., Prescott, AZ 86301.
