Shelby Lee Steinborn

Shelby Lee (Squires) Steinborn, age 52, passed away Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 at her home in Dewey, Arizona after a 5-year battle with ovarian cancer. Shelby was surrounded by her son Grant and close family members as she peacefully and quietly went to be with the Lord.

Shelby was born November 14, 1962 to Donald Leroy Squires (deceased) and Vivian Patricia Taylor (deceased) in Phoenix, Arizona. Shelby is survived by her son Grant Patrick Steinborn; devoted companion Michael Bussart; sister Shawn Marie Marcum and brother in law Daniel Marcum; nephews Christian, Jacob, Luke and Noah Marcum; Aunt and Uncle Robert and Donna Hargrove; Shelby’s cousins Michael Mellow, Vivian Marcott, Richard Hargrove, Theresa Gutierrez, and Donald Hargrove; several second cousins that Shelby was affectionately considered a loving aunt to; and Shelby’s beloved pets Asha, Alice, Taylor and Peekaboo.

At 7 years old, Shelby and her family moved to Chicago, Illinois and nestled into the suburb of Downers Grove. Shelby attended Lincoln Elementary School, O'Neill Junior High School and Downers Grove South High School through her sophomore year. Shelby spent nine years in Illinois, creating lasting memories with neighbors Joe, Betty, Steven and Lori Arnold.

In 1977, Shelby and her family returned to Arizona where she graduated from Sabino High School in Tucson and completed her degree in Hospital Administration from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Shelby was very active and involved with the schools she attended. She played the clarinet in her high school marching bands as well as organizing many events and fundraisers. While attending NAU in Flagstaff, Shelby was a “Resident Assistant” for SAC hall dormitory on campus and quickly made many lifetime friends that Shelby held very dear to her heart.
Upon graduation from NAU, Shelby pursued her career in hospital administration with much success. Shelby worked for various insurance companies, medical practices, physicians and hospitals, including Phoenix Memorial Hospital. During this time Shelby met and immediately bonded with two of her best friends, Tammy Duhamell Wick and Mindy Mulder.

In 1991, Shelby married Brian Lee Steinborn (deceased) and in 1996 gave birth to her pride and joy, Grant Patrick Steinborn. Shelby and Brian divorced in 1998 but continued to raise Grant together with much love until Brian’s untimely death in 2002. Shelby and Grant moved to the Prescott area in 2004 to be closer to family and raise Grant with all of his cousins. As a medical billing manager, Shelby worked for several medical practices and thrived in her field, building a reputation of integrity, professionalism and compassion. With her strong, independent spirit, Shelby began her own successful medical billing service, which allowed her to work from home and enjoy many trips with Grant, Michael, family and friends.
