William Albert Horner Jr.

On August 11, 2021, William A. Horner Jr., 98, rode the train to heaven. Bill was born in Pittsburg Pennsylvania to William and Mabel Horner on December 22, 1922. Bill completed High School, and moved to Florida to attend his first year in college at the University of Florida. Moving to California, he completed his Engineering Degree at USC.               
Bill enlisted in the Army in July 1945, and served for two years in the 441st Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment as a Staff Sergeant. Bill was Honorably Discharged from the Army, and began working for Westinghouse as an Electrical Tester.               
Bill parlayed his talent for Electrical Engineering with the Emerson Company, which eventually became US Motors. Bill married Ida Maye Friesen in January of 1950 in Yuma Arizona, and they lived in several homes across the US. Bill eagerly traveled the world as an electrical troubleshooter, and retired in Prescott from the US Motors Company in 1990.               
Bill had a love for miniature trains as a boy, and as an adult hobby, had an entire electric railroad and town set up in his living room. Bill enjoyed over 20 years of retirement living at Las Fuentes, with his favorite activity being the “Sit and Stretch” classes. Bill was proud of his service in the Army, and was accepted to attend the Veterans “Honor Flight”, going to Washington DC in October 2014.                Bill was predeceased in death by his wife Idamaye and daughter, Marsha Christian. He is survived by three granddaughters, Sheryl (Dale) Slothower, Betty (Tim) Murray, and Donna (Ernie) Sullivan. Bill is also survived by a great granddaughter, Jennifer (Bryan) Slothower. A Veterans Honor Guard Memorial Service for Bill will be held at the Prescott VA Cemetery at a future date.We miss you Grandpa.
