Carol S. Markel
October 3, 1933 – July 14, 2025
Our wonderful mom, (aka Momma, Marmy, Gam Gam, Grams, Grammy, Virginia, Gramama, Howdy Grandma), passed into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 14th, 2025, with family by her side. Born in Indianapolis on October 3, 1933, to Clarence and Virginia Stevens, she was raised in Van Wert, Ohio, and as a young woman, moved to California where she worked as a telephone operator for the Hollywood telephone company. She met the love of her life, Loren, (also a midwestern transplant), in the choir loft at church, married there, and raised their children in Southern California before retiring to Arizona in 2004, where eventually, and to their delight, their children ended up, as well.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and aunt, who loved her family dearly. Known for her angelic voice, she could always be found in the church choir, many times as a soloist, and in her early years, taking the lead role in high school musicals and operettas.
Preceded in death by her husband Loren in 2019, her mother, father, brother Robert and sister, Evelyn.
Survived by her children, Laura, Steven and Jennifer Ward (Brett), grandchildren Ashlee Pulido (Iz), Dylan Markel, Haley Ward and Hunter Ward, great grandchildren Drayden, Benjamin and Jaxon Pulido, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear lifelong friends, not to forget her little pups, Hansel and Gretel.
Carol’s hope for her family and everyone she met, was that they’d know of her unwavering faith in Jesus and also spend eternity with Him; John 3:16.
