Obituary

Claudia Maria Cabanas, a deeply beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and dedicated professional, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Prescott, Arizona. Born Claudia Maria Murcia on August 31, 1977, in San Vicente, El Salvador, she carried with her a spirit marked by kindness, love, and an unwavering willingness to help others throughout her life.

Claudia’s journey was one of remarkable dedication and achievement. A proud graduate of Westbury High School in 1995, where she earned the honor of Salutatorian, she continued her academic pursuits with degrees from Nassau Community College, Old Westbury College, and CUNY Hunter College. Her commitment to growth and service was most evident in her 16-year tenure with OASAS, where she rose to become an Addictions Program Specialist Supervisor, making an indelible impact on many lives through her expertise and compassion.

In 2002, Claudia met Timothy Cabanas, a meeting that blossomed into a lifelong bond culminating in their marriage in February 2008. Together, they built a life, moving to Lindenhurst, New York, in December 2012, where Claudia’s warmth and generosity touched all who knew her.

Outside her professional work, Claudia was a vibrant woman of many passions. She loved running and hiking, earning distinction as an accomplished ultramarathon runner. Her participation in numerous races, including the iconic NYC Marathon, the Long Island Marathon, Tesla Hertz Run, Javelina Jundred, Shore2Shore, Long Island 6 Hour 60th Birthday Celebration, and the Sri Chinmoy Marathon, reflected her remarkable endurance and zest for life. Alongside her athletic pursuits, she found joy in reading, knitting, and tending her garden—activities that brought peace and fulfillment to her days.

Claudia’s family was the cornerstone of her existence. She is survived by her devoted husband Timothy Cabanas; her loving parents Miguel and Rosa Murcia; her siblings Angela Bolling and Miguel Murcia; her brother-in-law Norman Bolling and sister-in-law Jennifer Murcia; cherished nieces and nephews including Kylah Bolling, Michelle Murcia, Natalia Cox, Ali Bolling, Johan Lara, Markus Lara, and James Nixon-Bolling; as well as her precious Emely Allen. Her beloved furry companions and an extensive circle of family, friends, and members of her running community also carry her memory forward, forever touched by her gentle heart and generous spirit.

Claudia’s life was a tapestry woven from threads of love, perseverance, and kindness. She was a beacon of light to all around her, always ready to lend a hand or a comforting word. Though she has left this world, the imprint of her warmth, her fierce determination, and her boundless love will remain forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her journey has come to a poignant close, but her spirit lives on in the countless lives she enriched, the trails she conquered, and the memories she lovingly crafted.

In celebrating Claudia Maria Cabanas, we remember not only a remarkable woman but also a cherished soul whose legacy continues to inspire courage, compassion, and the beauty of unconditional love. As funeral services will be held at a later time, the family invites you to celebrate Claudia's legacy in your own special way.
