Dolores Ann MacFadden

Dolores Ann MacFadden, 95, of Prescott, AZ, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, surrounded by loving family, after a 7 year battle with dementia. Dolores was born on a dairy farm in Baldwin, WI to Peter and Minnie VanSomeren. She was the only girl in a family of 5 brothers, two of whom died in infancy. She and her family attended the Dutch Reform Church. Her early school years were spent in a one room schoolhouse, a 2 mile walk from home. In high school she played the trumpet, was voted to have “The Best Legs,” and played basketball when it was six-on-six. After graduating from Baldwin High School, Dolores moved to Minneapolis, MN to further her education in business and secretarial skills. She married John MacFadden on May 1, 1958, to whom she was married for 62 years until his death. Dolores and John had 2 children, Karen, born in Seattle, and Kevin, born in Minneapolis. Dolores was a stay at home mom until Karen and Kevin entered middle school, at which time she accepted a position at Ivey’s department store in accounts payable. Later, she worked at Aetna, processing workman’s compensation claims until her retirement. After moving to Prescott, Dolores volunteered at Mingus Mountain Presbyterian Church and the Stepping Stones Thrift Store. Family was extremely important to Dolores. She enjoyed family gatherings with her brothers and their families. She and John enjoyed hosting numerous relatives in their home. Dolores especially loved the time spent with grandchildren Ian and Sara. Dolores never forgot a family birthday, always sending a card and note, often on her beloved typewriter. Dolores also enjoyed feeding birds, especially hot dogs to her favorite road runners.Dolores is survived by her daughter, Karen Hinkley and husband Joey Pardue, son Kevin MacFadden and his wife Anita, grandson Ian Hinkley and granddaughter Sara MacFadden. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers Melvin, Harry, Dale, Eugene, and Donald.
