Floy Ann (Gray Shallenberger) Allred

On April 15, 2026, long-term Prescott resident, Floy Ann Allred, went home to be with the Lord after a brief illness. Floy Ann was born in Calexico, California on June 9, 1940 to Floyd Clinton Gray and Thelma Scott Gray. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and husband of 26 years, Dr. Dallas Allred (her forever companion).

Floy Ann is survived by her children, son Joe Shallenberger and his wife Hara of Dover, DE, son Randy Allred and his wife Sandi of Prescott, AZ and daughter Tracy (Allred) McConnell and her husband Dave of Chino Valley, AZ. Floy Ann is also survived by six grandchildren- Connie, Jonathan, Kristy Lynn, Sierra, William, and Garrett- and great grandchildren, Grayson and Roxanne.

Although she was a native of California, she attended 13 different schools in California and Oklahoma until she graduated from Roswell High School in Roswell, New Mexico and married Dallas in 1960. Floy Ann moved to Prescott in 1964 with her husband, Dallas, to establish his medical career as a Family Physician. She worked in his practice as a medical secretary, medical assistant, billing expert, and “Girl Friday”. After she and Dallas divorced, Floy Ann continued her work in the medical community for Dr. Kathryn Ballard and at West Yavapai Guidance Clinic until retirement in 2005- ending a career

After having a nomadic childhood, Floy Ann was proud of her long-time Prescottonian status. She was an avid history buff. She enjoyed educating people about Prescott history and changes she has seen since she arrived. Floy Ann was also an amateur genealogist. She loved researching her family tree (and assisting others in building their family tree) on Ancestry.com. At the time of her passing, she had researched her lineage back to the 1700’s and had over 10,000 hints to add to her family tree.

Most importantly, Floy Ann was a Mom. She raised her three children (and grandchildren) on amazing homecooked food, wisdom, and a sharp wit. Her pies, cakes, and cinnamon rolls remain famous amongst her family and friends. She took great pride in her family, her years of work in the medical community, and her ability to connect the dots in history to the present. Floy Ann had a beautiful soprano voice and was a member of the choir at the former First Baptist Church on Goodwin St. in Prescott for many years.

Prescott has truly lost an icon. Floy Ann was held in high regard and loved by all. She will be greatly missed. A private time of remembrance and sharing for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 5:00pm at the Liberty Lounge in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Marley House.
