Karen Mae Johnson

Karen Mae Johnson, born on May 29, 1950, in Pittsburgh, PA, lived a life filled with adventure, kindness, and service to others. She was proud to have graduated from North Hills High School and later in life would set up a scholarship with her sister Pat. After a few years she met and married John Hubner. Together, they moved to Ohio, where she spent 12 years raising their daughter.

Karen's journey then took her to Connecticut, where she built a fulfilling life centered around her passions for Christ, sailing, crafting, music, and helping others. Her friends fondly remember her for her quiet, selfless service, always willing to lend a hand without seeking recognition. She could be found ringing bells, singing in the choir, or helping with the running of Trinity Lutheran Church. While working for Travelers she was recognized with an award for her continuous philanthropy to a variety of organizations. It was in Connecticut where she met her beloved husband, Bruce Johnson, and together, they dedicated time volunteering at Camp Woodstock, continuing Karen's lifelong commitment to serving others.

Seeking new experiences and warmer weather, Karen and Bruce moved to Prescott, AZ, where she spent her final years. Karen became an integral part of the community, joining a local quilt guild and becoming an active member of the American Lutheran Church. Despite being diagnosed with a progressive motor neuron disease, Karen remained as engaged and social as possible, continuing to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

Karen was a true people person, always welcoming others into her circle and generously sharing her time, knowledge, and passions. Her warm presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and church community. Her legacy of love, service, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a family and community grateful for the time they shared with her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Kathlyn Hunter and her sister Patricia Hunter. Karen is survived by her husband Bruce and her sister Debra Devokaitis (Michael) of South Carolina; her daughter Kristy Miller (Dan) of Colorado with granddaughter Katelyn and grandson Connor; her stepdaughter Kristi Green (James) of Texas with grandson Joshua and granddaughters Haylie and Lana; her stepdaughter Sarah Overton (Ken) of California with grandson Owen and granddaughters Olivia and Abigail; stepson Tim Johnson (Michele) with granddaughters Adison and Avery; stepdaughter Rebecca Rolando with granddaughters Lillian and Sadie and grandson Jaden.

A Memorial Service is being planned for December 28, 2024, at 11am at American Lutheran Church of Prescott. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to American Lutheran Church of Prescott. https://americanlutheran.churchcenter.com/giving
