Marianne Eva Freimark

Marianne passed away on July 16,2024, at the age of 86, in Prescott, Arizona. Born on January 20, 1938, in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of Artur Freimark and Erika Baiersdorf. Her father died in WWll and mother passed away in 1997.

Marianne came to America in 1959 following her first marriage to Robert Martin, an American GI stationed in Berlin. She became a US citizen on April 5, 1960 and her twin daughters, Jackie and Stephanie, were born that year in California, She divorced in 1969 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1970.

She graduated from Arizona State University in 1983 earning Master’s Degrees in both German Language & Literature and History. She was a Fullbright Scholar at Mainz University in Germany in 1980-81. She was an instructor of German Language at the American Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix.

In the summer of 1983, Marianne’s life took a serendipitous turn while working a seasonal job at Moqui Lodge at the Grand Canyon. It was here that she met Ron Larkin, her life partner of 41 years. She moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1989 while Ron continued working at the Grand Canyon. They bought their Prescott home together in 1999.

Marianne was actively involved with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Yavapai College in Prescott where she facilitated classes for many years. She was also active with the Unity Church of Prescott for many years. In the late 1980’s, Marianne found her passion for arts and crafts and began working with textile art, a craft that became a personal joy and a means of expression that she pursued the rest of her life.

Marianne leaves behind her life partner, Ron Larkin; her twin daughters, Jackie Greguska and Stephanie Collier-Nordbrock; her two grandsons, Matthew Trent and Nicholas Collier; and her great granddaughter, Hayden Collier, all of Arizona; and her brother Jurgen Freimark of Berlin, Germany.
