Michael "Mike" Machowski, lovingly known as Dad, RBD, Grampanator, Macho, Webologist, and simply "Web" to many who knew him, passed away in Prescott, Arizona. He was born in Chassell, Michigan, and remained a proud Yooper throughout his life.

Mike was the kind of man who left an impression without ever trying to. He was stoic yet deeply kind, meticulous in everything he did, endlessly intelligent, and gifted with a wit that could make anyone laugh. He could hold a conversation with just about anyone. He earned respect not because he demanded it, but because of the quiet integrity with which he lived his life.

He was fiercely dependable, deeply loyal, and thoughtful beyond measure. Mike had a beautiful mind. He loved physics, admired intelligence, and had a quick, understated sense of humor that rewarded those paying close enough attention. Every opinion was carefully considered, every problem thoughtfully examined. Those who knew him often found themselves seeing the world differently after hearing his perspective. Mike had an extraordinary mind for programming and problem solving. He built a career doing work that most people could hardly understand, solving complex problems with the same patience and precision that defined every part of his life. Those fortunate enough to work alongside him quickly learned there wasn't much Mike couldn't figure out. To him, impossible problems were simply puzzles waiting to be solved.

He was also a proud veteran who served his country with honor. In true Mike fashion, he rarely spoke about his service, never sought recognition for it, and wouldn't even ask for a veteran's discount. His pride came from having served, not from being thanked for it.

As much as he loved learning, nothing compared to the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. If there was a child nearby, chances were Mike was holding them, making them laugh, or chasing them around and throwing them in the air. His greatest joy wasn't found in things, but in moments shared with the people he loved. He also never lost his appreciation for life's simple beauty, especially a breathtaking sunset.

Perhaps what made Mike such an extraordinary father was what he didn't do. He didn't try to control his children or make their decisions for them. He let them make mistakes, trusted them to find their own way, and stood quietly behind them as a steady safety net whenever they needed him. It was one of the greatest gifts he ever gave them.

Mike is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Nathaniel, Daniel, and Stephanie; his beloved grandchildren; his mother, Valaria; his brother, Steve; his sister, Cindy; and countless friends across the country who were fortunate enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas.

There are people whose absence changes the shape of a family forever. Mike was one of those people. His wisdom, quiet strength, unwavering character, and steady presence cannot be replaced. He leaves behind a legacy not measured by accomplishments, but by the countless lives he influenced through his kindness, integrity, and love.

The world feels quieter without him in it. His legacy lives on in the values he quietly modeled, the curiosity he inspired, the family he loved so fiercely, and every sunset that reminds those who knew him to stop, look up, and appreciate the beauty that was always there.

US Army Honor Guard will be performing a 21 gun salute and flag ceremony for Mike at 4:30pm on Saturday at the VA Chapel (500 AZ-89, Prescott, AZ 86315) in honor of Mike’s service in the US army.

A private Celebration of Life for Mike will be held for friends and family by invitation.
