Robert Waud
Hellmers
Jan 9, 1937 — May 9, 2026
Robert Waud Hellmers was born on January 9th, 1937, in Orange, New Jersey and passed away in Prescott, Arizona on May 9th, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha Waud Hellmers and William Asdale Hellmers, his son Craig Hellmers, and his stepdaughter Roz Trull. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Hellmers, his daughter Kimberley Krivac, his sisters Audrey Busching, Carol Panepinto and brother Ted Hellmers. He also had several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Bob moved with his parents to Los Angeles in 1948. His family and other employee families moved from New Jersey to open a new home office for Prudential Insurance Co. in Los Angeles. After attending Van Nuys High School, and UCLA he met and married his wife, Lynne Juhnke in 1960. They adopted their daughter Kimberley in January of 1968, followed by the birth of their son Craig in 1971. After UCLA, Bob was accepted into the California College of Medicine (now UC Irvine Medical School) where he was a member of their first graduating class in 1965. He was then accepted at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for his internship/residency in Pediatrics.
The United States Air Force called Bob for duty in 1967 and he was stationed at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California, as a pediatrician. Since Bob had been asthmatic and “allergic to everything” as a young child, he worked to become board certified in both Allergy and Immunology. He wanted to help children participate in sports and daily activities because he was unable to do so.
In October of 1972 he joined Dr. Ken Tollackson in a growing practice in Phoenix which later expanded to 5 offices and 5 partners. Arizona Allergy Associates has been a legacy in Maricopa County for over 50 years. He loved helping people. His patients will never forget “Dr. Bob”.
Although he retired from his practice in 2019, he continued working. He was currently part of a team at Arizona State University in the field of Autism research headed by Dr. James Adams in Tempe, AZ. He loved what he did.
Bob loved his family, and friends, animals, boating, traveling, and most of all, taking care of people and serving the community.
He was proud to tell you he owned One Square Inch of land at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee!
Bobs favorite vacation spot was Maui, Hawaii, and his many trips with his children to Mission Bay, San Diego. He loved photography, desert sunsets, cactus flowers as well as the unending beauty of the Western Mountains. And he ALWAYS had a stash of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies!
