Robert Louis Painter (Bob), passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026 after a 5-year battle with Parkinsons Disease and a short but valiant effort against Congestive Heart Failure. He passed at the age of 89. Bob is survived by his son Bret, two grandchildren Joshua and Shea, three great grandchildren Semper, Valens and Rowen. He was predeceased by his wife Sharon and son Mark.
This remarkable man served his country, provided for his family, led a successful life, and is known throughout the community of Prescott for his work in three different non-profit organizations.
Bob served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 -1957. He then used the GI Bill and graduated from Michigan State University with a Masters Degree in Business Education. Bob taught at the high school, junior college and the university level. He then took a job at the Xerox Corporation, where he found he was a better salesman than teacher.
As a man that felt anything could be accomplished, if you read the right books, Bob built a Geodesic Done in Phoenix where the family lived for 18 years. He and his partner of 66 years Sharon, also built a cabin above Walker Road, a 4-Plex in Lake Montezuma, and one house here in Prescott on Lakeview Dr.
In January of 1994 the couple settled in Prescott, Arizona where they lived for the rest of their lives. This move did not curb their desire to travel however and they visited 18 countries for varying lengths of time over the ensuing period. In the last two years of his life, Bob and his son Bret, were able to make several visits to Puerto Penasco, a favorite place of Bob and Sharon, and also a trip to Costa Rica, a place where Bob and Sharon visited 26 years earlier.
Bob was a person that believed in giving to the community. He served as a driver, on the board, and the president of the board for Prescott Meals on Wheels. He and several of his close friends also started the Yavapai Food Neighbor Project, 11 years ago, and he would donate his time at the Prescott office of People Who Care.
