Sarah Lee Hoover Meyer
Sarah L. Meyer died September 18, 2025, in Prescott, Arizona. She was born December 23, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of R. Gerveys and Lee (Jenks) Grylls.
Sarah Lived in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan as a child and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. She attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College and Michigan State University, where she earned a B.S. degree. At age 54 she earned a Master of Counseling from Arizona State University. Sarah taught grade school in Wheaton, Illinois and Chino Valley, Arizona.
Sarah is best remembered as a helping person. She was the founding director of Prescott People Who Care, beginning in 1992, and the founding president of St. Luke’s School beginning in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Donald R. Hoover and subsequent husband Bob E. Meyer. Sarah is survived by her sister Carroll G. Reid of Brooklyn, N.Y., son Russell K. Hoover and wife Sherry of Chino Valley, AZ, daughter Ann C. Naumann and partner Matthew of Eureka Spring, AK, grandchildren Eldon Hoover, Sarah Hilt, Holly Zander, Yahkie and Shastah Naumann, great grandchildren Jeraco and Tevi Naumann, and Ashley and Amber Hoover.
Sarah will be missed by her sisters in PEO, her former chapter BG and new chapter FE, as well as her many friends in Prescott.
Her service will be at St. Luke’s Church at 2000 Shepard’s Lane, Prescott where she previously was a chalice bearer at services, a Vestry member, a member of various committees and organizer and participator in the administration of the St. Luke’s Preschool and Kindergarten.
Interment will be a private service at St. Luke’s Church Columbarium. Donations to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or People Who Care P.O. Box 12977, Prescott, AZ 86304.
The family would like to thank Las Fuentes Assisted Living and Maggie’s Hospice for the care they provided Sarah.
