Lynn "Lenard" Ray-Hazelbaker died on November 25, 2024, in Prescott, AZ. She was born December 6, 1945, in Tipton, IN, to Ellis and Juanita Maxfield. She attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Muncie, IN, where she graduated in 1964.
Lenard married Michael Ray in August 1964. After graduating from cosmetology school, she enjoyed a brief career as a cosmetologist before starting her family. She loved being a stay-at-home mother to her three children: Tony, Bob, and Jama. In 1973 she moved with her family to Phoenix, AZ. When the kids were young, she enjoyed spending time as the Team Mom for all the kids’ sports activities. She was also active with the PTA, church group, and all things related to camping and dirt biking.
She was divorced in 1984 and moved to Greeley, CO, where she graduated from James Beauty School with a nail technician certificate. While in Greeley, she rekindled her friendship with Jim Hazelbaker and they were married in May 1985. Lenard worked at several shops until opening her own business in 1987. At "The Nail Factory" she worked with some of her best friends and found many more friends among her clients. She managed her own business until she and Jim moved back to Arizona in 1991 where she continued working in various shops before moving her business into her home. During her downtime she helped with the grandkids as chauffeur and after-school caregiver.
After retiring she spent quiet days with Jim taking care of the many animals that found their way into the home. Visitors could expect to find Lenard snuggled on the couch with one of the family dogs, a cat, a turtle, a guinea pig, or even a pet rat. She loved to attend school activities with her grandchildren and be in the kitchen cooking with the family. Lenard was also an avid baseball fan, cheering on the Diamondbacks through winning and losing seasons. Any activity was thoroughly enjoyed when sharing her time with family and close friends. She had a secret passion for painting and creating greeting cards which was never fully realized but remained in her heart for her entire life. Lenard found peace and comfort in her strong faith in God.
Lenard is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Jim; three children, and one stepson: Tony (Danette) Ray of Milton, FL, Bob (Tami) Ray of Phoenix, AZ, Jama (Troy) Tegtman of Prescott, AZ, and Brent (Abby) Hazelbaker of South Berwick, ME. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step great-grandchild who lovingly call her Mamaw, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Juanita Maxfield; and sister, Rosita Alexander.
The family is honoring Lenard's wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Yavapai Humane Society Thrift Store at 1601 Iron Springs Road, Prescott, AZ 86305.
