Tommy Hernandez

Tommy (Tom) Hernandez was born in Lakin, KS on 11/23/1956 to Lewis & Timmie Hernandez. He graduated from Lakin High School in 1975. He married Shawnee Yakel in November 1977 in Lakin, KS. He passed peacefully 2/19/2026 in Prescott Valley, AZ.

He worked for his dad at Lewis Repair before going to work for Kinder Morgan. He worked for Kinder Morgan for 18 years in both Kansas & Nebraska before moving to Castle Rock, CO. He worked for the Town of Castle Rock for 19 years before retiring & moving to Prescott AZ.

At an early age he developed a love for basketball & played basketball every chance he got before his health prohibited it. He & his son started collecting baseball cards in 1986 and that continued for many years. After moving to Prescott, he opened The Dugout in Pine Ridge Marketplace, which was still open at the time of his death. He enjoyed collecting sports cards, sports memorabilia & talking to his customers about sports. He was an avid Las Vegas Raiders, Colorado Rockies, OU Sooners fan for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shawnee. He's also survived by his daughter Angie Gosnell, his son Aaron Hernandez (Lauren), 2 sisters, 1 brother, and his 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Dennis & Mark & brother-in-law Kirk Yakel. Burial will take place in Lakin, KS at a later date.
