Antonio M. Martinez, of Prescott, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Scottsdale Health Care-Osborn. He was born on May 10, 1919 in Jalisco, Mexico. Tony started a 34 year career as a miner: as a young man working first became a miner in Jerome, then work at Bagdad and ended his career at the Iron King Mine in Humboldt. Tony worked at the Arizona Pioneer Home as, a painter for twelve years. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Philippines, during World War II; malaria contracted there ended his career in the military. He enjoyed hunting deer and fishing especially with his brother. He enjoyed playing golf. He liked watching baseball and his favorite team was the Dodgers. He was always successful at everything that he did. Tony is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julia; son, Richard J.; grandchildren, Christina and Richard Jr.; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Socorro Tellez of Phoenix and many nieces and nephews. One son, Jesse, precedes him in death. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 27, 2005 from 9 to 11am at Wakelin Family Funeral Homes in Prescott. Celebration of Antonio Martinez?s life with funeral mass with rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 150 Fleury Ave. on August 27, 2005 at 1:00P.M. Burial will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
